1985-New Eagle Patch

The 75th Anniversary of Scouting brought about a change back to a design similar to the 3rd version but with the border and eagle on the patch done in silver mylar and the motto was done in blue. The mylar eagle did not wear well so there was a change after only 2 years.

1976-New Boy Scout Handbook

This edition was the most radical change in content the BSA ever made. It de-emphasized outdoor skills by making them optional in the lower three ranks and eliminated outdoor merit badges from the required list for the higher three ranks (the Eagle list dropped Camping, Cooking, Nature, Swimming, Lifesaving)

1975-New Eagle Patch

Under pressure to regain an attractive, yet simple badge, the Eagle was once again redesigned with some more detail. Many variations of this type exist.

The change in design corresponded to the change from 21 merit badges required for Eagle to 24 merit badges. Since the new design was not well received, it was changed within four years.
