About

Boy Scout Troop 524 was established in 1964 and is chartered by the Fr. Bernard Reiser Knights of Columbus Council #10138. Weekly meetings are held at 7:00 PM on Mondays at Epiphany Catholic School in Coon Rapids, MN from September through June. Although the troop is sponsored by a Catholic organization, it is open to boys of any faith background.  Troop 524 celebrated its 50th Anniversary in November 2014.

Scouting is a boy-led organization with adult leaders who assist.  Boy Scout Troop 524 follows this model, and has numerous adult members giving it a low ratio of scouts to adults and many resources for completing merit badges "in house".  Our troop, along with its leaders, have received many local and national awards of recognition throughout the years.

Boy Scout Troop 524 is very proud of the 118 Scouts who have achieved Eagle Scout rank and the many other Scouts who are advancing quickly toward that rank.  We value all the Boy Scouts, ages 11 to 17 of all ranks who add diversity and creativity to the troop.

In 1997, Boy Scout Troop 524 received the National Gold Medallion Award, which is presented by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting.  It is presented to units that excel at providing the Scouts with quality programs including religious activities, religious emblem opportunities, outdoor activities and special events which encompass religious, vocational and educational aspects of Scouting.

In both 2011 and 2012 Troop 524 receive the Journey to Excellence Gold Award, the highest JTE award level.  JTE is a method for evaluating a unit, based on specific guidelines and standards of what is considered good performance by the Boy Scouts America.  JTE evaluates adult training, number of camping opportunities, service hours, finances, and adult and scout involvement.  Learn more about the award and program HERE
